I thought I would put up some Yiddish proverbs. I have a book of 1001 - but don't worry, I won't put them all up. Some are for thinking over, others are just funny or cute.

Mountains cannot meet, but men can

A little charm and you are not ordinary

Doctors and gravediggers are partners

Its a good idea to send a lazy man for the Angel of Death

A friend remains a friend up to his pocket

Laughter is heard farther than weeping

A good friend is often better than a brother

A half truth is a whole lie

A child's wisdom is also wisdom

A wise man hears one word and understands two

A wise man knows what he says, a fool says what he knows

A maiden is like velvet - come on, fondle her!

It costs money to sin

A slap heals but a harsh word is remembered

Trouble doesn't come alone

A word is like an arrow - both are in a hurry to strike

One fool is an expert on the other

One always thinks that others are happy

One lie is a lie, two are lies, but three is politics

All brides are beautiful; all the dead are pious

Uphill one climbs slowly, downhill one rolls fast

When a wise man talks to a fool, two fools are talking

When the stomach is empty, so is the brain

When your enemy falls, don't rejoice; but don't pick him up either

When a mother shouts at her child: "Bastard," you can believe her

If everyone says so, there's some truth to it

When the heart is full, the eyes overflow

If God lived on earth, all his windows would be broken

If I would be like someone else, who would be like me?

If you're going to do something wrong, enjoy it!
